Lactobacillus plantarum 299v (often written L. plantarum 299v, and trademarked LP299V®) is a lactic-acid bacterium that was originally isolated from healthy human intestinal lining by scientists at Lund University in Sweden more than three decades ago. It’s the same family of friendly microbes found in fermented foods like sauerkraut and sourdough.

The headline trial is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 214 people with IBS.
