Top Rated Probiotic for Bloating + Better, More Predictable 💩

⏰ Back in Stock!

Our Back to Balance Plus (B2B+) is a synbiotic powder meaning it contains a probiotic and a prebiotic to amplify the support of each ingredient.

B2B+ contains one of the most clinically studied probiotic for bloating alongside soluble prebiotic Acacia Fiber for sensitive guts & better, more predictable poops.

B2B+ completely dissolves in water making it easy to use and a safe option for the most sensitive guts. It also does not lose potency with high heat exposure, making it easy to use in warm beverages as well.

Probiotic for Bloating

Our product is a powerful blend of prebiotics and probiotics designed to support your gut's natural balance and promote optimal digestive health.

The L. plantarum 299v strain was shown in a 4 week treatment period to reduce painful IBS symptoms like bloating and abdominal pain in 78% of the individuals that took it. Other studies have also shown significant improvements in abdominal pain, bloating and gut discomfort as compared to placebo.

At just the first week of intake of the strain in B2B™, 70% of the participants reported significant pain and bloating relief.

In a study on strain used in B2B™, there were reductions in both the severity and frequency of pain. After 30 days, there was complete resolution in abdominal pain and improvements in IBS symptoms was seen in 95% of patients compared to only 15% in the placebo group.

The Top Rated Probiotic for Bloating

Only 16% of supplements are clinically tested for effectiveness and quality. The strains in B2B have been clinically proven in over 6 gold-standard, double-blind placebo controlled clinical trials.

Double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials (DBRCTs) are the gold standard in scientific research for various reasons, including:

  • Validated efficacy
  • Bias elimination
  • Control for placebo-effect
  • Regulatory compliance

By testing B2B™ each ingredient in our full formulation and 3rd party testing at each stage of the process - the entire product is meticulously inspected and validated for safety, tolerability, and efficacy.

Better More Predictable Bowel Movements

One of the reasons people love our B2B™ is for it's use in regulating stool frequency helping you have better, more predictable bowel movements.

Many tools out there help with either constipation or diarrhea - but the soluble prebiotics in B2B™ have use to help with both constipation and diarrhea.

In a study looking at the strain used in B2B™, there was a trend towards normalization of stool frequency after 30 days of use. In clinical practice as dietitians we have seen that this can vary from person to person with dosing with the average being 4-6 weeks of use at a 1-2 servings.

One of the benefits of taking a synbiotic (prebiotic and probiotic combined) is that prebiotics help encourage the growth of helpful gut bacteria longer term. The prebiotics in B2B™ help encourage the growth of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteria and additional butyrate.

When Can You See Improvements?

Everyone has a different microbiome and starting place when it comes to seeing improvements with prebiotics, probiotics and synbiotics. However, below are some estimates based on our researched ingredients.

1 week

At just 1 week of intake of the strain in B2B™, 70% of the participants reported significant pain relief.

30 days

In a 30-day study on the strain used in B2B, there were reductions in both the severity and frequency of pain. After 30 days, there was complete resolution in abdominal pain.

There was also a trend towards normalization of stool frequency. Improvements in IBS symptoms was seen in 95% of patients compared to only 15% in the placebo group.

4-6 weeks

At 4-6 weeks - alleviation of constipation and improvements in bowel movement frequency are seen with the prebiotic in B2BReductions in diarrhea using our B2Bwere seen at 4-6 weeks.

12 weeks and beyond

At 4-12 weeks of use - the prebiotic in B2B helps encourage the growth of lactobacillus, bifidobacteria in the gut and helps encourage butyrate production.

After 12 weeks of use, there were significant improvements seen in abdominal pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation.

While we can never promise improvements while taking back to balance plus, these are results seen in research with the ingredients used in B2B™.

What Makes Us Different

We create products that we want to use. We create products that are curated for those with sensitive guts and that are actually effective.

Research Backed

Did you know only about 16% of supplements are clinically tested? If you've ever felt skeptical and like most of what's out there doesn't hold up to the marketing - you are right about that.

This is why we use ingredients with clinical efficacy. Our products are also formulated by dietitians with real life clinical and research experience - not just a panel of "experts".

3rd Party Testing

While it would seem like a no brainer to make sure a product has everything it says it does and is free from harmful ingredients - this isn't the standard yet. In fact, only 12% of supplements are 3rd party tested!

Gut Love’s products are 3rd party tested at each stage of production - for quality, potency and to ensure what you are getting is what is listed - nothing more and nothing less.

What Makes Back to Balance Special:

  • Carefully formulated with one of the most clinically-studied probiotic strains
  • Enhanced with prebiotics to nourish beneficial gut bacteria
  • Supports digestive health and better more predictable bowel movements
  • Easy-to-take daily supplement - 100% soluble, dissolves in water

What's in it: Just TWO ingredients

Just 2 Ingredients and nothing else. The probiotic strain LP299V® is the most clinically documented strain of L. plantarum in the world. It has been discussed in more than 200 scientific publications out of which 65 are human clinical studies. Most of the research centers around it's use for reducing abdominal pain, bloating and helping better stool pattern.

Back to Balance Plus also contains a soluble fiber that is hands down the easiest prebiotic to use and functions to help stool move at the right pace while also helping with reduction of gut symptoms.

Both the prebiotic and probiotic do not lose potency with heat. The powder is tasteless and colorless, so it can be mixed into any hot liquid or smoothie with ease. Gluten free & low fodmap.

Is there really ONLY 2 ingredients?

We regularly get asked where the full list of our ingredients is. The answer is - it’s only the two ingredients listed. There are no additional fillers are stabilizers present. Nothing more and nothing less than what’s listed on the label.

This is a standard we were not willing to compromise on since we make products for those like us with sensitive guts.

Is this product 3rd party tested?

Did you know only 12% of supplements are 3rd party tested?

Back to Balance is 3rd party tested at each stage of production - for quality, potency and to ensure what you are getting is what is listed - nothing more and nothing less.

Is this product research backed?

Only 16% of supplements are clinically tested- meaning for many there isn’t research behind the substantiated claims in their marketing.

At Gut Love we make sure that all we create products with research behind them. We have our research hyperlinked and you can also check out the clinical document on this page.

The strains in B2B™ have been clinically proven in over 6 gold-standard, double-blind placebo controlled clinical trials.

In addition, B2B™’s probiotic strains have been validated in dose-matched gold-standard clinical trials.

Double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials (DBRCTs) are the gold standard in scientific research for various reasons, including:

  • Bias elimination
  • Control for placebo-effect
  • Validated efficacy
  • Regulatory compliance

By testing B2B™ each ingredient in our full formulation and 3rd party testing at each stage of the process - the entire product is meticulously inspected and validated for safety, tolerability, and efficacy.

Do probiotics need to be in a capsule to be effective?

It really depends on the probiotic strain! Some require encapsulation to be effective, while others don't.

Multiple in vitro and clinical studies have shown that the strain in B2B survives the harsh conditions in the human GI tract and can survive the passage through the GI tract irrespective of the gastric acidity.

Several clinical studies have demonstrated that the B2B strain has excellent persistence capacity all the way from the mouth to the rectum.

Is L. Plantarum the same as L. Plantarum 299v?

No, these are actually very different! In fact, if only "L. Plantarum" is listed - then you don't actually know what strain is being used!

Believe it or not, companies are not required to list the strain name which is not fair to the consumer.

We will always list the full strain name

Many companies don’t list the strain name of their products. They might list “Lactobacillus Plantarum” for example, but there are hundreds of this probiotic family and they are not all the same.

Some companies do this to cut costs since most consumers aren’t aware of the major differences between strains. Also, some companies creating products do not understand that the strain name really does matter.

You will always see a strain name listed with us. As a consumer, you should be able to know what you are taking.

The Probiotic: L. Plantarum 299v

L. Plantarum 299v (LP299V®) is the probiotic we use in our back to balance plus. LP299V® is the most clinically documented strain of L. plantarum in the world. It has been discussed in more than 200 scientific publications out of which 65 are human clinical studies.

We formulated our product with this strain due to the evidence to support it’s use in treating bloating, gas and abdominal pain.

The Prebiotic: Fibergum

Most fibers help alleviate constipation, but rarely address diarrhea or loose stools. Rarely do you find a versatile prebiotic fiber that can help with both constipation and diarrha. Fibergum® helps to alleviate occasional constipation and diarrhea by helping food move through the gut at the right pace; improving stool consistency and regularity of bowel movements. Fibergum® is generally well tolerated compared to other types of prebiotic fibers.

One reason we put fibergum in our back to balance plus is for it’s adaptability. Fibergum® is highly soluble in water, colorless, odorless, tasteless, fodmap friendly and gluten free. It is also extremely resistant to high temperatures just like our probiotic so can be consumed in hot beverages with no issues.

Reducing Bloating & Gas

A study showed that a fruit drink with LP299V® was able to significantly reduce flatulence. Number of days with abundant gas production was also significantly and more rapidly decreased in the LP299V® group compared to placebo.

The effects of LP299V® given to IBS subjects have been evaluated in two larger clinical studies: one placebo-controlled including 204 people, and one in a real-life, non-placebo controlled study including 221 people. Both studies found significant improvements in both severity and frequency of bloating and flatulence, as well as several other benefits.

Sunfiber also has some beneficial effects on reducing gas and bloating. In a double blind, placebo controlled study of 108 patients, significant reduction in gas and bloating was found after 2 months of taking 6 grams of sunfiber.

Reduced Abdominal Pain

LP299V® has successfully been shown to reduce both the severity and frequency of pain in several studies. In one study, participants received either placebo or LP299V® for 4 weeks in a fruit drink. Already after one week of intake, 70% of the participants in the LP299V® group reported a significant pain relief.

At the end of the study, complete resolution of abdominal pain was found in the LP299V® group, compared to 55% of the subjects receiving placebo who still reported pain. The studies in further studies have confirmed these results, showing significantly reduced severity and frequency of abdominal pain.

Several studies have also shown the impact of using sunfiber to reduce abdominal pain. After two months of taking sunfiber, significant reductions in abdominal pain were found after 2 months of taking sunfiber.

Better Bowel Movements

Improved stool frequency is another effect seen after intake of LP299V®. The probiotic strain has been shown to help with both constipation and with diarrhea. Significant reductions in urgency of bowel movements has also been found using this strain of probiotic.

Regular intake of 10 g/d of Fibergum was found to be helpful for improving frequency and consistency of bowel movements. Fibergum promotes digestive health and when combined with probiotics offers a synergistic benefit.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Patients with active UC, supplemented with an oat gruel fermented with LP299V®, had significantly improved symptoms during a 24-week period. The results were confirmed in a randomized study comparing a drink containing LP299V® to a similar product without the probiotic strain.

The mechanisms previously described for LP299V® may also explain the beneficial effects on symptoms of other types of IBD. Studies show links between improvement of IBD symptoms and immune-related mechanisms, production of mucus, strengthening of tight junctions, and inhibition of translocation.

One of the nutrition goals with inflammatory bowel disease is to help to encourage the growth of helpful gut bacteria and encourage the production of short chain fatty acids (SCFA’s) like butyrate which can help with lowering inflammation. Several have shown soluble fibers like Fibergum to be effective in increasing beneficial bacteria such as lactobacillus and bifidobacteria and SCFAs in the gut.

Better Iron Absorption

Assisting with improved Iron uptake seems to be a strain-specific property unique to LP299V®. The effect of LP299V® on iron absorption has been studied in several clinical studies in women, as well as in animal studies. LP299V® has been proven to increase iron absorption and improve iron status.

Do you disclose all of the ingredients listed?

Yes, absolutely! Our value is transparency so we will never hide our ingredients using terms like "proprietary blend".

Many supplements hide their ingredients behind a “proprietary blend” - meaning they often do not include the dose range so it can be harder for clinicians and consumers to know what they are actually taking and how much is in it.

Our products are formulated by dietitians living with IBD - and we wanted to see more products on the market that are formulated well and transparent about what's in them. We think consumers (like us) deserve that.

I found a product with L. plantarum - is it the same thing?

Although it might seem like another probiotic listed as “lactobacillus plantarum” would be the same or similar to lactobacillus plantarum 299v but they are actually quite different. When it comes to probiotics, the last part of the name tells us quite a lot about what’s being used.

What can be confusing for many consumers is that many products do not list which strain is being used. There can be hundreds of different types of lactobacillus plantarum strains, but not all have research to back up their use. When it comes to probiotics, we advise you avoid purchasing from companies who are not transparent about what’s in their products (like which strain is being used).

How is LP299V® derived? Is it from dairy?

The probiotic strain LP299V® was isolated from healthy human intestinal mucosa three decades ago. It is not derived from dairy and our product is dairy free.

Does Back to balance lose potency with heat exposure?

Both ingredients used in our product can be used in hot liquids without compromising the quality. One of the reasons we love the LP299V® strain is that it handles heat very well. Studies on it so far show that heat exposure (like putting some in tea or coffee) doesn’t affect the potency. However, we wouldn’t recommend storing it in heat long term.

Do probiotics need to be in a capsule?

Every probiotic is quite different in what it can survive. The LP299V® strain we used in back to balance survives the digestive tract well and can make it all the way down to the lower digestive tract where the impact counts the most.
