Matcha and and tea are both made from green tea leaves. However, matcha uses the entire green tea leaf which is grinded down into a fine powder. Matcha varies in quality quite a bit depending on how it’s grown. The quality of matcha can determine both the taste and nutritional properties.

Our matcha is grown and harvested in Uji city near Kyoto, Japan, the birthplace of tea and especially matcha. Tea produced in this region is known for it’s bright color and vibrant flavor. The soil quality and process of harvesting makes it unique and of exceptional quality compared to most matchas commercially available.

Our matcha is “shade grown” - meaning it’s traditionally grown in the shade for the last 20 days before harvest. This helps enhance the bright emerald color due to chlorophyll, boost amino acids like L-theanine and increases antioxidants.

Our matcha is tested for bacteria, yeast, mold, over 500 different pesticides and heavy metals to ensure purity. The matcha is also tested for Arsenic, Mercury, Lead and Cadmium and even holds up to the strictest of heavy metal guidelines - including california guidelines. Our matcha is also is also grown without the use of pesticides and no pesticides are present after harvest either.

We don’t just test for what’s not in our matcha - we also test to ensure our matcha has potent concentrations of antioxidants, calming l-theanine and theobromine.
